I have many fond memories of our 2 years there - we had a ball!  The base swimming pool, where most of us spent all our daylight hours during summer vacation, the "Boy Scout Camp" they had on base at Sidi Slimane, shopping in Pt. Lyautey, my Mom bargaining with the vendors, etc.  And that NASTY mint tea!  My gosh, we drank a lot of that stuff, as part of the bargaining process.  Yellow headlights.  NSU Mopeds.  Gross French cigarettes.  Our maid, "Heymore" (I never knew her real name).  Sand and ice plants for a 'yard'.  Pet chameleons.  My dad & I liked to build box kites and fly them using an old salt-water rod & reel with 50-pound test string.  Once, we built one that was 7 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide, and got it up almost 200 yards.  Then the AP's came to the house and asked us to bring it down, because they were picking it up on radar!
